Almost 5 years after the city of Los Angeles admitted responsibility for like 3,600 sewage spills in a 10 year period, things are not much better. D&W to Venice will be closed through tomorrow due to a spill of nearly 9,000 gallons of sewage. The spill dumped raw sewage from an apartment complex into Ballona Creek which empties directly into the sea.
L.A. water quality is still amongst the worst in the world. 12 beaches in Los Angeles county currently rate below C and of those currently rated an A, 6 of them are currently closed or are failing to meet basic health standards. These beaches include Malibu, Topanga, and other popular breaks.

Sucky news. Combined sewage overflows have kept me out of Puget Sound (paddleboarding) in the past so I can sympathize. Thankfully, the Washington Coast is less developed and so the only things that keep me out of the water (surfing) are shitty conditions.
BTW, thanks for blogging Tim Kessler's paddle and documentary. I've gone and linked both of your pages on my blog, and today, added a post giving you props and calling out his planned paddle. Swing over and check it out if you want an ego boost!

No problem Dave. Tim's story is really amazing; from youngest member of the Windan Sea Club to paralyzed to gearing up for an 1100 mile paddle. He's an amazing guy and I'm super stoked you are fired up about his trip.
